4. I don't think it's accurate to say there's no loss in functionality

I’m not sure which adapter you are referring, but for Nikon’s own FTZ adapter there’s some significant loss of functionality on some of the older series of AF and manual lenses. The adapter lacks a AF motor, so the Nikon AF lenses without an internal AF motor are not going to autofocus. The adapter also lacks an aperture feeler, so older MF lenses that do not have an electronic connection for the aperture setting will have no way to tell the body what aperture is being used.
