on the plants when I bought them, only one of which ended up being edible!

You're lucky if you can assume anything sold at a farmer's market is grown without pesticides. Around here, SE PA, a lot of the farmer's market produce is grown by the Amish and they use as much poison as anyone, if not more. At one time I naively supposed that they were all natural. Boy was I wrong.

Ans they use MiracleGro type fertilizers, also problematic, imo.

My friend grows peppers with not a single bug problem, and he tries to grow organically. But he lives between Amish farms and says their pesticide wafts over onto his property.
