Most of my 1st graders were bilingual since most were from Asian countries or Spanish speaking countries. I felt like the dumb dumb. They were fantastic when we would get a new student who didn't speak English and they would fight over who would sit next to him/her and help them out with translating. They even translated for me and their parents during conferences.

I learned in Second Lang training that the part of the brain that learns languages is huge up until the age of about 10 and then it shrinks to about the size of a lima bean by 25 years old. That made me feel a little better.
