He has raised almost 13 million dollars from donors like Sergy Brin, and others. Most Democrats I know look at him as "Republican lite." He was elected as a city council member for four years and left after two to run for mayor, where he's been for three years. The fact that he's backed by so many tech bros and billionaires is one of the reasons I'm not supporting him. Plus, I haven't been impressed by him as our mayor. I sure hope he doesn't end up as our governor.
