Now, in the case of Eric Swalwell, let's assume that the R word hadn't come up, and Swalwell had an affair with a consenting staff member, like Gavin Newsome did. It still wasn't right, but do you think Swalwell could have gotten out ahead of this like Newsom did?

Newsom didn't wait to get sued by someone or for the dirt to be dug up by a publication. He came out and publicly admitted he had an affair when he was going through a divorce, said it was wrong and apologized. The married woman he had the affair with said she wanted it to be clear, it was wrong to do it, but she didn't consider herself a victim.

Affairs aren't uncommon, and considering they often get dug up, I just think the way Newsom handled it is the way to go.
