NY hospital shooting inspires proposed legislation [View all]

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- A New York lawmaker has drafted a bill that would make it illegal for a stalker to use a GPS to track a victim.

Sen. Timothy Kennedy of Buffalo will outline the details of his proposal Tuesday. He'll be joined by relatives of Jacqueline Wisniewski, who was gunned down at a Buffalo hospital last year by her surgeon ex-boyfriend.

Before she was killed, Wisniewski discovered a GPS tracking device on her car that had been installed by her killer, Timothy Jorden.

Kennedy says there have been tens of thousands of such cases in recent years, but that there's no legal statute specifically addressing them. His bill would make it a felony to install electronics to track another person. Jorden committed suicide as police closed in to arrest him.
