Corbett Pressures Legislators to Restrict Ability of Municipalities to Regulate Gas Operations [View all]

http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/regional/s_779437.html

A new update on this issue. Several republican Senators are pushing back against prohibiting local regulations. This issue not only involves wells, but also ponds for hazardous liquids, water treatment facilities, noise, etc.

The original draft of the law by the Corbettites was written so incredibly broadly that it would have even prohibited municipalities from requiring that gas drilling companies repair the damage to local roads from their 50 ton rigs.

There also are separate issues about whether gas companies will be able to use eminent domain to build new pipelines across homes and farms.
