I have no other source for that number. Media, who historically under represent, said 3,000. There were easily 1000 or more wandering around just the auditorium and lounge room we had in the extension which is underground from the main part of the capitol. Photos from friends had lines wound around the 3 large rooms in the capitol rotunda and lines out the south steps. I can't speak from personal experience because I was too riveted to the video feed in the auditorium.

One thing I did not mention earlier was about some House testimony (paraphrasing here) when first Dawna Dukes said she had served a mere 20 years and never seen the like of the stunts the House was pulling and neither had Senfronia Thompson, who has served in the House for over 40 years. Senfronia took the podium and made a statement that we were never going back to the days of these and then she brought out a coat hanger and hung it on the microphone as she spoke. Other Dem reps gathered around her and the cameras all focused in. Dawna Dukes interrupted for an inquiry and remarked that the capitol's audio and live feed had remarkably gone off line at that time and asked to be notified when it went back on. Seems to me it was about the time the coat hanger went away.
