Pablo Gonzalez, a 21-year-old college student, wants to be a fresh Democratic voice in the newly drawn 15th Legislative District, but his first bid for office will be against Rep. David Taylor, a Republican incumbent who touts years of experience in the private and public sectors.

The two men come from opposing parties and different cultural backgrounds, but have similar sentiments on jobs and the economy. Both want to ease the burden of state regulations on small businesses; both oppose tax increases; and both want the state to find more funding for education.

Gonzalez, of Zillah, says what would make him different is the amount of attention he would pay to the district, which he says is lacking under Taylor. As a Democrat, Gonzalez says his affiliation with the majority party would allow him to "bring home the bacon" for projects in the district.

"He (Taylor) hasn’t done anything for this district," Gonzalez said. "Being in the majority party would make it easy for small businesses to get tax cuts."
