7. During Uninstall, keep it plugged in to your computer

For (re)installation, unplug it from the computer before you begin the process. Most installation disks/programs (you do have the installation disk/program, don't you?) tell you when it's safe to plug your printer/scanner into your computer. Also keep the printer/scanner plugged into the wall during both (natch).
