(63,172 posts)Since the very beginning when Sanders announced that he's now a Democrat and running for president, I saw his supporters laying the groundwork for pre-rationalizing his defeat.
Clinton is to blame.
The DNC is to blame.
DWS is to blame.
The media is to blame.
The GOP is to blame.
Skeptical DUers are to blame.
And so on. You can see it in the ongoing daily threads telling us that one or more of the above are afraid of Sanders.
That way, if he doesn't win the primary, it will have been due to the nefarious machinations of the establishment, rather than to any failure by the candidate or his supporters. The current OP is a good example of the same: anyone who questions his potential is declared the enemy and thrown aside. Or thrown under.
I like Sanders, and I like a great many of his ideas, but I am simply not convinced that he's the strongest national candidate nor that he would be effective in the Whitehouse. The incomparable Jimmy Carter was a just and moral man with great ideas, but he wasn't a strong competitor, and we're still suffering from the damage inflicted by his successor. The louder his supporters howl, the less convincing they become.
If Sanders lands on the ballot I will most assuredly support and vote for him, and I'll even overlook the smug "I told you so's" that we'll get from his supporters. But still seems unlikely.
And if he makes it to November and doesn't win, I suspect that the defeat will be blamed on Clinton's supporters as well, for failing to support him passionately enough or something.
