If people who bash Oklahoma could be here after a tornado and see how quickly people come together to help each other they would be amazed. People watch out for their neighbors here, even the ones who don't agree with them. Outside of the guy across the street our neighbors, even the right wing ones, treat us with total respect and care.

We came here almost 20 years ago, I didn't want my husband to take the job based on what I had heard about Oklahoma. The day we moved it was 102 degrees, we had a loaded rental truck that was smoking and 2 dogs. Within 10 minutes of pulling into the driveway we had 4 neighbors over helping my husband and I unload the truck, then lemonade and pizza from the lady next door. It was an amazing welcome. Did they invite us to church, yes, we thanked them kindly, said we had that covered and went on.

It is easy to see only one side, especially during election time when we are more than aware that we are very much a minority. Even on a University campus you are a bit out of place here. But the pluses outweigh the negative.

The people here are beyond kind.
