Hillary Clinton, in St. Louis speech, accuses Trump of 'political arson' [View all]
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton told about supporters in St. Louis Saturday that GOP candidate Donald Trump is playing with fire by stoking anger and resentment among his backers, and she called on them to make this year's election a referendum to reject that approach.
"The ugly divisive rhetoric we are hearing from Donald Trump is wrong, and it is dangerous," Clinton told about 100 supporters at the O'Fallon Park recreational facility in St. Louis, prior to a much larger rally she would lead later in the day. "If you play with matches, you are going to start a fire you can't control." She said the billionaire candidate is guilty of "political arson."
"You have every right to be angry, but anger is not a plan," she said. "You have every right to vent your frustration about the way that our economy and our political system is failing, but venting is not a solution." She encouraged supporters to "stand against this tide of bullying and bigotry and blustering that is going on in our political system."
Later, speaking to a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters packed into a warehouse at the Nelson-Mulligan Carpenters' Training Center on Valcour Avenue in south St. Louis County, Clinton thanked local Democrats who were present, including St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay and Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander, who is trying to unseat U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., this year.
