On the one hand, you can't have heads of state held responsible for their actions while in office, that would be a terrible precedent, and it could cause the actions of other people to be called into question too.

On the other hand, at this point, anything else will get them laughed at and ridiculed, as too obviously rigged, and we already have lots of trouble with our Latin American satrapies because of the Bushites fondness for being obvious bullies.

It would be most convenient at this point if he died of old age or something, then they can try to just sweep it all under the rug, let things cool down.
