This is just something the 'anti-imperialist' faction needs reminding of on occasion, that the United States is hardly to sole power with imperial reach and ambitions, and all such use identical justifications for what they do.

It is true enough that relations between states were well summed up at Melos millennia ago --- the strong do what they will, the weak suffer what they must. But if an action's root is nothing more than 'I'm bigger, and you're nearby', one ought to have the character to say so clearly.
