5. I've been reading about electrolysis for more than 50 years.

I used to be as badly educated - as dumb - as some people here.

Here's an example of me writing about the subject 12 years ago: Neodymium Nickelate High Temperature Electrolysis of Water In Solid Oxide Cells.

Then again, I don't chant. I work very hard to be educated, continuously.

While their thermodynamics has improved, electrolyzers are still devices for wasting energy because all the wishful thinking in the world cannot undo the 2nd law, which pretty much rules the universe.

Most of the electricity on this planet - stupid rhetoric aside that makes people waste electricity by pretending it all comes from the useless so called "renewable energy" fantasy - is made by the combustion of dangerous fossil fuels.

Here are the thermodynamic transitions, each at a loss of energy, that go into the stupid idea of using electricity to generate hydrogen:

Primary chemical energy - dangerous fossil fuels - is converted to thermal energy, at a thermodynamic loss, thermal energy is converted to mechanical energy by the steam turbine, at a thermodynamic loss, the steam turbine turns a generator to convert the mechanical energy to electrical energy, at a friction and thermodynamic loss, the thermally degraded electricity is transported over wires produced by mining copper to an electrolysis cell which converts electrochemical energy back to chemical energy at a thermodynamic loss involving pumps, compression and, in the worst case, liquefaction.

If people actually looked at reality instead of chanting and pretending that electricity is "green" because they spend their days worshipping nonsensical pictures of wind turbines and solar cells just like medieval people used to contemplate pictures of an Italian girl dressed up like the Virgin Mary, we might have some hope for a clean world.

Instead, they just post the idiot pictures and pretend they're connected with reality. They're not.

Reality:

June 02: 421.64 ppm
June 01: 421.94 ppm
May 31: 421.83 ppm
May 30: 421.57 ppm
May 29: 421.74 ppm

People think prayer saves lives; it's not particularly different to claim that pictures of electrolyzers and wind turbines and solar cells save the environment. Neither is true. Both are nothing more than faith.

There are reasons that 200 years after the discovery of electrolysis, it remains a trivial source of hydrogen. The reasons are thermodynamic, and, closely related to thermodynamics, economic and environmental.

These things matter.

If people want to fall on their knees and worship, there's nothing that can be done about it. Even though I have better things to do, but let me help them in their uselessness:
