I think if I were facing death in the not-too-distant future, I would like to do some traveling also. Then return to be with family for the later days or months.

I don't know if there are other alternatives for you to get medical treatment; perhaps others do. If you make too much to get assistance, and if you are ill, maybe you should leave your job and put yourself in a different financial situation.
