Malto meal is made from sprouted wheat and that is going to make it considerably sweeter than the matzo meal. I don't think it would be very nice in gefilte fish, for instance.

If the recipe can take the sweetness of malted (sprouted) wheat, then you can try it. Just be prepared for a flop.
