You wouldn't think this would work, but it did. On a California trip a few years ago, we picked up a loaf of San Luis Obispo Sourdough bread. When we got home, we took the centers out of a few slices, broke them up and mixed them with water and flour in a jar. Within 24 hours, the mix was bubbling like crazy. Feeding time, I leave ¼ to ½ cup in the quart jar, add 1 cup of a mix of white, rye, and whole wheat, and 2/3 cup hot tap water. Depending on temp, it will fill the jar in a couple of hours.
