I sometimes carry a Ruger LCP .380.
(6 rounds)
Last defensive shoot I heard of with an LCP, 2 BG's took 3 shots each and walked away.

It's not reliably accurate from more than 15 feet, has a little "nub" on the front of the slide that I THINK is supposed to be a front sight, a 10 lb trigger press and what seems to me like 12" of trigger reset, and is probably no more fun to shoot than a derringer.

This is why it is usually a BUG.

That said, I can reach in a pocket and get a firing grip without Brandishing if needed, it's very maneuverable close in (compared to my G19 EDC), in a different spot than my EDC in case I end up on the ground, and when it's 90 degrees out I don't have to conceal a "brick" on my hip. It's less than Ideal, but it has a place.

Or maybe it's all the guy could afford?

In any case... it did the job, and very well.
