I didn't say DC was the worst, I said it was relatively hefty, and the numbers seem to bear it out.



40 years ago the murder rate was over twice as high as it is now, but NYC was something like 5 or six times what it is now.

It's not just guns; there's an array of social, societal, economic, and environmental reasons besides the hardware issue.

Warring drug gangs will, by and large, fight and kill each other; thus the murder rate in a city may be driven by a violent subset of career criminals. This would not necessarily reflect on how widespread LEGAL gun ownership affects a city, but more on the choice to outlaw certain drugs and force the business to go underground.
