If you want to buy a gun and get a CCW permit then discard both it's certainly no concern of mine. I assume you'll dispose of it safely - either render it completely inoperable or simply hand it in to the police (I would suggest giving it to me, which I assure you would be completely safe too, but I'm guessing that's not the kind of throwing it away you'd choose).

Why would it bother people if you wasted your own time and money on a futile gesture? Can't think of a reason personally. If you choose to mock gun ownership by very briefly owning a gun it's your business. Only thing anyone is likely to object to is unsafe handling. Avoid that and it's your property just like it would be if you tore up your Bible or burned your driver's license, and no worry to anyone else.

Why is this something you feel you might try?
