(39,909 posts)8. Can you name something, ANYTHING that either Clinton
has done for PoC?
*Welfare Deform was a HUGE disaster for the Black Community.
*"Free Trade" cost all of us Working folks MILLIONS of jobs, but especially hurt those in the lower SES, as "step down" workers started competing for lower paying jobs.
*Mass Incarcerations disproportionately targeting Black People.
*Private Prisons that are PAID to keep the beds full...also disproportionately populated by Black People (Hillary takes campaign contributions from them)
* Draconian Drug Laws (again targeting the Black Community) and mandatory sentencing.
So help me understand.
What has either Clinton ever done for PoC to earn their support?
the two issues that President Clinton should be held most accountable for are the real effects of his welfare reform initiative and the real effects of his criminal justice policies. In both areas the Democrats were allowed to come into the Black community and speak as if their efforts on both of these issues were good for Black America, offering dubious "evidence" to support their claims.
On the issues of welfare reform and criminal justice, President Clinton and Democrats have a habit of only presenting only half of the facts in order to spin "success stories". Late last year President Clinton claimed that welfare reform had been a success because the welfare rolls had been decreased dramatically and because former welfare recipients had "found jobs". If success in welfare means a wholesale dropping of people out of the program, than by all measures welfare reform has been a success as numerous people have been cut from public assistance.

The larger subject is whether Clinton's policies helped or hurt African Americans
