I was really looking forward to seeing this young player this season, as I love the competitive nature of our rivalry.

Cancelling the practice seemed to me like they were giving up, or unable to cope with a thing that is an unfortunate part of the game.

In addition, they should have gotten their back-up some reps, pronto. That's what practice is for.
