Plus complaints about Ole Miss players faking injuries, taunting fans during the game, etc.

Not an excuse to throw stuff onto the field, of course, but the frustration had apparently built up for awhile.

I'll always remember a play, from years ago, when the Bengals swatted the football out of a Raiders player's hands and they quickly recovered it. There was absolutely no controversy about the Raiders player being down, in the grasp or anything else. It was a bang-bang play, with the ball being swatted out immediately.

Then a ref said that a whistle was blown before the fumble -- WHY?! And why didn't anyone hear it?! -- and the TV commentators eventually moved on like it was no big deal, after they very briefly expressed their disagreement with the refs' reversal of the fumble. My impression was, "It's only the Bengals anyway, those losers." It was a close game too, with the Raiders winning by less than one score.
