Can anyone identify this bird? [View all]

I was going through some archives this morning and found this photo. My husband took it a couple years ago. From the looks of the trees, it was probably late spring or summer.

I have pored through my bird guide book and can’t find anything with the same pattern on its feathers, and I’m wondering now if it’s a juvenile, although it’s pretty big for a juvenile. I originally thought finch/sparrow with the short, stubby beak. But, again, the pattern on the feathers was not like anything nI could find in the book.

Anyone have any ideas?
