Apologies for the poor quality photo - only the little pocket camera on me!

These magnificent birds are large, playful, noisy and when in flight, appear to flap their wings in slow motion - unmistakable.

We have a few old stands of (non indigenous) pine trees in town; the nuts in the pine cones are their favourite food; they can shred a pine cone to fibres in a short time.
