A symbol is not necessarily a spiritual flag automatically. Consider one symbol, the Caduceus (Snake wrapped around a pole). Today we see it on the Star of Life used as the symbol of modern medicine. Prior to this it was the Rod of Asclepius, also used by Hermes, Iris and Mercury all who may have taken their symbol from a 4000 year old Mesopotamian messenger god, Ningishzida, who served the Mother Earth goddess. The serpent on a pole is also a symbol used by Moses among the Hebrews and peace symbol for ancient India kings. The symbol is found on the Indus Script and gives a common spiritual element across the ages.
