usually gauze is used to stop the bleeding!

judaism has a high place for health. for instance, i get a pass from fasting on yom kippur because not eating will give me a migraine. also pig products are fine for medical procedures such as heart valve transplants or insulin.

so the idea of a ritual that violates basic health principles is not at all the norm in judaism.

but hey, there are wackos and nutjobs in any religion, no exceptions.
