The concept that "intersectionality" is only for some is bullshit. When it comes to Jews, there is never a fucking shortage of non-Jews who just "don't get it" or try to tell us what is and isn't anti-Semitism. It is quite easy and understand able to accept that those of us who are white benefit from "white privilege", but it is just as easy to see that we, as Jews, are victims of bigotry because of who we are as a minority. What I am seeing from certain elements is the idea that diversity is to "exclusive", not "inclusive."
We white Jews especially need to recognize that centering out own status as victims here is a power move, as well as a way to avoid self-reflection on our relative status in a white supremacist world, Vilkomerson tweeted. tweeted.
That kind of bullshit is the hallmark of a self-loathing asshole who doesn't understand that victimization and creating victims aren't always exclusive. Is a white paraplegic person also a hallmark of "white supremacy" or can assholes like Vilkomerson and Mallory see that such an
individual, while having white privilege, will also face many other forms of discrimination not at all related to his/her skin color?
What people seem to have a difficult time wrapping their simple little bigoted minds around is Jews ARE a minority. Yes, most are white, but that doesn't take away from minority status any more that an able-bodied, Christian, heterosexual man who is African-American is also a minority, despite his being part of the patriarchy, and having mobility, religious, and heterosexual privileges!
Being white or male are
not the only privileges which plague our societies and other forms of bigotry and oppression are just as legitimate to discuss and fight!
