It explains so much I have wondered about over the years. It can also help I think in those situations where people don't remember every detail right to not discount the whole memory over details that do not pertain. For example if three people witness a car accident it is not out of the realm of possibility that they will say that the car was blue, brown, or purple. A defense lawyer will try to discredit the testimony of the witnesses based on that detail that really doesn't pertain to whether or not there was a crash and which driver if either were at fault.
