Good morning. Do you have a clear sky? [View all]

You should be able to see Mercury this morning. I saw it about forty minutes ago, from central Alexandria, Virginia.

If you have a clear sky, and if you have an unobstructed view to the east down to the horizon, you should be able to see Mercury.

Venus is unmistakable in the eastern sky. Follow its trajectory back to where it first appeared on the horizon. Just above the horizon, look for a yellowish white dot. That’s Mercury. It’s not a star; stars are bluish white.

It’s possible to see Mercury during only about two or three stretches per year. We're in one of them.
