Tokyo has some of the most stringent, perhaps the most stringent, seismic resistance regulations in its building code of any place in the world. Saying that, I wouldn't want to be on the observation deck if a large earthquake struck. I was on the observation deck of Tokyo Tower when a moderate earthquake occurred, and it was kind of freaky.

Anyway, here is a picture of Tokyo Skytree that was taken while it was still under construction. It looks really close, but it's about a mile away.
