But this is a meeting about global income inequality, something the Pope has spoke out on since he came into the post and is clearly a prime issue for Bernie.

Bernie expressed his interest in the topic with the Vatican and they (or the Bishop alone) decided that having a N. American politician speak would be meaningful for them.

The Vatican has some of the canniest operators in world diplomatic circles, seriously doubt they are being played by Bernie.
