Let's say, hypothetically, you have someone who cares, but has become so jaded and cynical about the nature of modern politics that they don't associate with a particular party....Not that they do not care about things, but they see nothing constructive getting done. So they decide "A pox on all their houses." But then Bernie hits a chord, and they see some daylight and ant to support them....But, oops. Because he had not envisioned a viable candidate like Sanders months ago, he can;'t vote for Bernie in the primary.

There are endless variations and reasons people were ineligible to vote for Sanders in the primary...and it's not because they are stupid, or apathetic or whatever.
