If the Party had historically been proactive in doing the right thing there would not have been the need for disputes at conventions but the fact is DNC was all white until a convention dispute seated the first African American delegates in '64. It took all sorts of pressures at convention to prod Bill Clinton into saying 'gay and lesbian' when listing Democratic constituencies. He did not walk up to us and volunteer to do that, just so you know.
I think it's fun to believe our conventions are a Vegas style review but that's not how it has ever been.
Those of us who have been called fringe, radical and militant just for wanting a place at the convention table hesitate to agree with the 'shut it all down and run it like an Amway convention' theory.
