they say they don't want people to be on welfare but then they box people in by denying them protections and failing to ensure that the "free market" pays them enough of a wage and provide enough benefits so that they don't have to turn to welfare to simply survive.

BTW Wal-Mart is the perfect example of what you are saying in your OP
