Those people are like the friend that accompanied me to the Sanders rally in Portland on Sunday.
He likes to think of himself as a diehard Liberal, so he goes through the motions - he joins the protests, attends the rallies, rails against Republicans on his blog, etc.
When the rubber hits the road he's a defeatist and a political coward, and not all that Liberal.
All he could do was sneer at Occupy because the camps became gathering places for the homeless. He has told me in no uncertain terms that the political system cannot change, our slide from republic to empire cannot be stopped, and all politicians are hypocrites, therefore the best we can do is try to run out the clock so at least he can get his Social Security. He chides me for being an idealist, and considers himself the more knowledgeable pragmatist. When I press him on his logical fallacies, he always falls back on "All I know is that I hate the Republicans!" as his reasoning. He's the perfect tool of the Third Way, having swallowed their propaganda hook, line, and sinker.
(He has also spent much effort trying to convince me that arranged marriages are superior to the "fad" of romantic love, and keeps pestering me to go "rescue" a foreign bride from the third world. Yeah, what a "liberal."
But he flies the Bernie flag to trick himself into thinking he's not a Conservative.
