(62,325 posts)interested in issues and a lot of the great DUers who actually made this site a success, were still here.
DU has changed, eg, last year during the Ferguson Protests, something that in the past would have been a top issue here, few people paid much attention to the OPs put up daily by a few people. One great poster, finally left, citing a disappointing lack of interest and went on, as many of us do when it comes to issues like this now on DU, to other venues to continue keeping the issue alive. And it IS alive, just because the media left doesn't mean the protests ever stopped or the crackdowns and the arrests and the militarized cops on the streets doing what they did to OWS.
What I found interesting was how a few people here DID try to politicize it, but few of them were anywhere to be found last year on thos Ferguson threads. Not really interested I guess.
So yes, there are people whose only interest in issues is to promote their candidates. I eg, did not do that when AAs were furious with Hillary and all over Social Media were slamming her after her insensitive remark at the Black Church. I and others certainly could have posted OP after OP showing how she was losing the support of AAs.
But we did not. So the contrast re Bernie from some of Hillary's supporters who day after day tried to drag it out, was amazing.
But when you have been involved in something for years and watch people who never were interested, suddenly showing all this 'concern' you know it is not an issue they care about and won't, once it is no longer valuable to them politicially.
Meanting for decades, the killing of AAs by cops has only gotten worse and won't be fixed by politicians, it hasn't been and they've had ample time to do it.
Bernie refused to slam Hillary over her remark when prodded to do so by a corporate stooge. He was angry that they were making it a political issue, but sadly, Hillary's camp didn't react the same way towards him.
He has always been involved in this issue, way more so than any other candidate in this race, for decades. He has many friends in the AA community and people are going to be surprised at how much support he is getting from that community. But you'd never know it here, nor is it important.
Same people don't seem to be cheering for BLM anymore though. Since the protested Hillary.
