2016 Postmortem
In reply to the discussion: CLINTON Throws Out BLACK LIVES MATTER Activists During Speech On Race [View all]YOU do get to lecture everyone else on how they can not have any opinion unless its purely subjective. What gives you the right or knowledge to declare that everyone's subjective truth is the truth.
Your post is divisive and lecturing on how no-one knows what its like to have a problem other than the person directly having that problem and that no one else can either understand or help. My training is in the social sciences which explicitly says the opposite. I deal with people's issues all the time. Sometimes people know what is going on with them, sometimes they are too caught up in it and can not look at any problems objectively. This is actually usually the case when people are feeling pain or oppression. Sometimes we need an outside mirror to actually see what is going on with us.
Subjective feelings can actually lie. Many people have similar issues (and I mean similar not identical). Someone exposed to anti-arab hatred or who has been the victim of a genocide probably has a pretty good idea about any institutional racism even if they are not African American.
As to your divisiveness, you have nothing in common with PoC that I am friends with who do not share your opinion that no one understands what it means to be a human being trying to live a good life. We all have our crosses to bear and an enlightened progressive movement tries to find common ground between people and have them understand each other.
I am older now. My friends, acquaintances and loved ones all have many of the same concerns, that their children get ahead, that we are able to live, that we will not be homeless, that our health holds out, that fascism does not take hold. That we do not continue to have an economy solely based on war. We do not want to be victims of crime. We do not want to be victims of the state. We do not want to run into violent people in the wrong state of mind or wrong place. The race or gender of these friends have nothing to do with it. In addition to common concerns, some of these people have other issues that directly affect them (this is where you come in). Certainly, racism, anti-antisemitism, anti-arab issues are part of the world and affect us differently but we don't pretend that it is a unique experience in the world or history, that no other group has any truth on the subject or that our subjective feelings represent the absolute truth.
People have similar but not identical issues and can discuss each other directly and call each other on our bullshit. That is the progressive version of what humanity should strive for. All you can do is find division and difference and lecture people about how they do not understand the world if they are not one category of people.
