(45,251 posts)the reasoning is wrong. This is not poetry. There is one correct answer and the answer is that, yes, as of May 2015, at least, Sanders is a Democrat.
However, I will bookmark this thread for Skinner's post and my own.
First, who is a Democrat and who is not is, in the first instance, determined by state law, in this case, the law of the State of Vermont. By simply declaring that he is is running for the Democratic nomination for President, as he did in May, 2015, Sanders did all he possibly could do under Vermont law to become a Democrat.

Second, no one who is not a Democrat is eligible to run for the Democratic nomination for President. That should be self-evident, if even if some DUers pretend it is not. The DNC is the final authority on who is and who is not eligible to run for the Democratic Presidential nomination. From the day that Sanders announced he was running as a Democrat, the DNC has treated him like any other Democratic candidate for POTUS, including inviting him to participate in the Democratic debates. Please not: the operative word in this paragraph is Democrat, duh. (BMUS, obviously, the duh and the tone are not for you or, for that matter, for Skinner.)
