(29,798 posts)All you've done is divert away from the question, which is, what is the role of the insurance companies and why do we need them under this plan?
They are in place largely as a way to control health care costs. They aren't doing that and we need government intervention to accomplish that function. What value are the insurance companies bring to the table?
Also, how does the "all payer' approach help with the supply side of the equation? A large part of the structural problem lies in the extremely high costs incurred to put a health care provider on the front line. Those high costs are largely a function of the medical cartels controlling the supply. Without gaining control over the supply side, the cost saving system won't work. It will result (IMO) in a trend to redefine upwards the qualifications needed to deliver even the most rudimentary functions of health care - leading to health care provider shortages and cost increases that the all payer model can't control.
We already have a functioning template that can be easily expanded - Medicare. It does what we need to accomplish. Why make it more complicated? Why not try to turn out the voters we need to make REAL change happen?
