are financially important for advertising revenue. If there is no mechanism for members to delete their accounts, then membership numbers remain artificially inflated and thus garner more income (some churches do the same thing and it's frustrating).
Don't know if that is part of the reason here on DU, though. I'd hate to think so, but don't understand myself why they aren't allowing members to delete their accounts from this site. There must be some way to do that while still preserving former posters previous posts.
Did you ask why (nicely) in the Admin forum?
