I keep my FB page locked down and only allow a small number of people access. I use FB mostly for animal rights and liberal causes (and it can be a good information source).
It is funny because my nephew ended with the now ex-wife from hell. When her FB page is not locked down so I look at it occaisinally (as well the FB page of their son). I asked my niece one time that if _______ had gotten engaged to the guy she cheated on nephew with. My niece's reaction was "Are you friends with _______ on FB? Wait are you on FB? 
I told her yes I am on FB and no I did not friend ______ on FB. Apparently she had unfriended my sister and niece. I told my niece that since I never friended her, she would not have known to ban me from her page. 
Of course I got the lecture that if I friended the family I would know more of what is going on in the family. I still have not friended any family members. Living in Repubican hell, life is just too short to waste my personal time dealing with conservatives. FB is more of an informational tool then a social one.
