I generally don't use that function, simply ignoring people who don't add anything worthy to a conversation without clicking a button. When I do, it's because they pushed my buttons and I need a cooling off period. They'll come off the list after a couple of months.
I have used the "hide thread" feature every single day, multiple times, since this primary season began; not only does it clean off the front page, but it helps to deal with the temptation to kick a hateful thread by responding. I want those hateful threads to sink.
I'll be blunt. I found DU in 2002, read for awhile, joined in January of '03. DU has taught me a yuuuge, unintended lesson about Democrats and the Democratic Party.
Keeping in mind the TOS, I'll just say that I have lost most respect I ever had for the party, and for a large number of its members. I'm planning to change my registration this summer.
If Sanders wins the nomination, I'll rethink that plan. But, at this point, the only reason I see to be registered as a Democrat is to participate in primaries, and if I'm going to get fucking neo-liberals shoved down my throat, along with demands for loyalty, every primary season, there is no real point.
As far as putting people on ignore? DU is the only place I've ever done that, and it's in part due to the cooling off period, and in part due to the censorship issue. If I can't say what I really think because it violates partisan rules, I don't need to read or respond to partisan bullies.
