In reply to the discussion: Just got axed from the $HRC$ group for posting a sarcastic comment. [View all]passiveporcupine
(8,175 posts)29. I have a concern with this too
"I also have a problem with these groups, the HRC group, Bernie group... Do we really want an area where like minded people only can discuss what they already agree on?"
I can see having a group of like supporters, to help boost moral for that group. But what I don't get, and I am sorry, I've not read enough threads from the Bernie group, so I hope I don't say something wrong here...but everyone can read what we post in these groups. They are included on the home page and unless someone has them hidden, everyone can read them. I find it really alarming that it's OK to insult the opposition team, and I hate even using that term, but that's what it's become, hasn't it? I posted in a Hillary group thread today to thank the members there for not continuing to insult Bernie supporters as the OP of that thread started out. I don't think we should be able to do it any more than they should.
Of course, I was immediately banned from posting in that group...but unfortunately, I can still see their threads and the insults.
One member there was angry that I'd bring it up when so many of the Hillary supporters have been attacked and insulted by Bernie supporters. I don't know if that's true or not, but if it is, we need to stop doing that too. Even in this group. And we should be open to them posting in our threads as long as they are being respectful and not trying to trash Bernie.
It is not helping the democratic party to have a feud that splits us down the middle.
So right now, each group can continue to insult the other, and then ban them from posting in that group, if they try to comment on it. Is that even fair? I can see not going into that group to bash their candidate...that is an insult in itself. We need to respect their right not to have those kinds of threads in their group. But we all need to stop this rising tide of disrespecting and insulting people who don't believe as we do.
I am sorry I even mentioned it in that thread as it was not taken as I intended...feelings are too raw, and I can understand that, in hind sight. But I was bothered by the "insults" in that thread and didn't know how to address it. It doesn't do us any good to keep building up the us against them wall and disrespecting each other, even if we keep it in our own group. It's not really just our group. Anyone can read it.
Attack the message, not the messenger...why is that so hard to do? Discuss the candidates and their policies and history, rather than being snide and rude and disrespectful when talking about DUers.
