212. I heard those sorts of comments

while growing up and they always jarred me, primarily for their superficiality and shallowness, but it took some living and hurting to realize how utterly cruel they are. People are toothless because they are so poor that dental care is a luxury they can't afford. People live in small, run-down dwellings because they don't have the resources (money, strength, health, hope) to change their situation. They are doing the best they can under difficult circumstances. To scorn them because one's own situation happens to be better than theirs is blind and cruel.

This is what Bernie knows. This is what (religion warning) Pope Francis knows. This is what (Jesus warning) Jesus knew. This is also what the Buddha saw as a young man, and it changed his life. Because this is a fundamental truth that all human beings should know and that everyone should teach their children -- and their Republican friends.

This is also why we need some good old-fashioned Democratic Socialism in the U.S. of A.
