If these "middle-class" voters became republicans or third-way democrats (neo-liberals) over the years, they probably won't change. They've voted THEIR values and the country is hanging in there, for THEM. Maybe not for their kids and grandkids, but that's way out there - their problem.

These are people who don't get the larger picture, they only know that they're doing okay, and don't give a shit about anyone else. Which is much of why this country is such sad shape: "I've got mine, so screw everyone else."
