(15,435 posts)the Bernie Blogger! I remember not so long ago welcoming you to DU and was impressed by your enthusiasm and the fact that you're a millennial. I too know millennials who are supporting Bernie, in fact 3 of my own grandchildren are old enough to vote. One just this year.
I'm a long time activist who has seen many elections come and go. As a Boomer and active since that time, Viet Nam and all the upheaval from way back then, we DID feel we made a difference. It was said after that WAR that wasn't a WAR, so they told us we heard the words "never again!" BUT words are only words as we've had to learn and deal with all these many years.
I was very young when John Kennedy was killed and then MLK and then so many others who were proud to stand up and actually die for what they believed in. All the leaders of the Civil Rights Movement that were targeted and killed. BUT, it was when Robert Kennedy was killed that broke my heart in little pieces. Not that the others before him mattered less, it just seemed that he would have been able to reach out and connect with America in a very personal way. I really felt he wanted to do more for "we the people" than anyone I had seen who came before him. I think he would have made a better POTUS than his brother might have been himself. But we'll never know.
I say all this because right now I view Bernie Sanders in much the same way as I did Robert Kennedy. They killed Robert with bullets and they're trying to kill Bernie with MONEY! And as the saying goes, Money Talks And Shit Walks!
This country has already been called an Oligarchy by President Jimmy Carter and if we are unable to have our voices heard through Bernie Sanders, I do FEAR this country called America is in great peril.
Read Thom Hartman's book "The Crash Of 2016" or Thomas Piketty's (he's a French economist) book about capitalism and the inequality between the rich and poor. Sorry, I can't recall the name of his recent book. I haven't read it yet and it's on my list to read because I think it defines austerity in simple terms. I was recently given the name of Martin Armstrong by someone who told me to find out more about him...
So, again "retrowire" I again thank you for the activism I see coming from you. You are the future and you are needed more than you might even know.
Let's do what we can to keep this country from going the way of Rome!
