Democratic Primaries
In reply to the discussion: Only a Biden nomination will allow us to take back the Senate too [View all]PatrickforO
(15,329 posts)You'll notice that the majority of people who have decided on a candidate here are supporting Warren with Biden in second place. Warren has good policies - I know because I am an economist and her policies are very solid - and is energetic, articulate, scrappy and obviously an order of magnitude more intelligent than Trump.
Last time I did the math, there were about 123 million registered voters in the US. Trump is solid on about 45 million give or take. These are the real basket of deplorables - the kluxers, the nazis, the homophobes, the xenophobes, the ones who would rather see a dictatorship.
However, Trump has thoroughly alienated the independent voters, who outnumber either Dems or Repubs. He has hurt farmers, automakers, auto workers and has undermined the economy with the trade war and the giant tax cut for donors and corporations.
The Democratic base will vote for a Siamese kitten over Trump, they dislike him so much.
I'm thinking Trump is going to have long negative coat tails, and this nation will turn blue. Within five years, the GOP will die, go the way of the old Whigs and Know Nothings, and this party will likely split into progressives and moderates. At least that is my prognostication. We'll see.
But to say what you just did - a bit premature, and other opinions do differ with yours. I think Warren or Buttigieg could do as well against Trump as Biden.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
